January for a Fresh Start

It's that time of year when many people get into the 'fresh start' mode and start organizing and purging items no longer needed or wanted. There hasn't been a lot of organizing going on through November and December, even on my part.

If you saw my sewing studio now you would gasp! I have been preparing for some upcoming 2012 challenges by pulling threads, fabrics, beads, supplies, photos and you name it! I am doing CQJP 2012 (crazy quilt journal project), BJP (bead journal project) TAST (take a stitch on Tuesday), and trying to do a painting a month along with a Yahoo group. You can follow along with my journey or just learn more about these on my other blog if you like. It is hard for me to work in this chaos unless I close my eyes and when I close my eyes it is hard to paint, stitch and bead. I have discovered I don't have any tabletop or other flat surfaces in my sewing studio to put supplies I'm currently working with or to keep my works in progress (WIP). I have also discovered that since bringing my recycled rocking chair into the room it is difficult to access my supplies in the closet in the corner. Suffice it to say I have 'stuff' laying on the floor everywhere! I am on the lookout for a dresser or two as a solution to this disaster. Wish me luck!

I only have three links for you this time, but they are good ones!

LINKS:

If you are like me, I love to see the spaces/studios where others go to create. Several artists who license their artwork have shared their fabulous studios through a blog hop. You can start here where Karen shares some great ideas:

Many of you are familiar with Tim Holtz through his great line of products. He has now also designed some travel and storage cases inspired by vintage luggage. There is a short clip on this link where he demonstrates how his products fit into the cases. Of course these cases could be used for any number of other products as well.

Pam Corwin offers some thoughts, inspiration and ideas for studio organizing on the following post:

I hope your new year is off to a great start! I would love to hear from you!!! Have you got new plans for your studio? How do you maintain your WIP? Have you found any great organizing pieces?

Like you my sewing room is in a bit of a disaster. Strips of fabrics everywhere. A fresh start sounds like the very thing I need. The real key for me would be to leave my sewing room neat at the end of each creative session. When it would only take a few minutes to set things in order. But somehow that never seems to happen. Maybe I should make a sign, "Connie says, Clean Up Your Mess!", think it would work??

I can't say that I have any new plans for my studio, other than trying my best to use up what I have and stay away from purchasing anything new (beyond the basic things such as thread). I have altogether too many UFO's that need attention plus a pile of denim that has to be reduced before it takes over - certainly enough to keep me happily occupied for months (or, more likely, years).
