Our lives are so busy and hectic that plastic storage seems to be the quick and easy solution for organizing and simplifying our lives. I love the function of those pieces but also want a studio with personality, character and warmth to inspire. I want a studio I can't wait to enter! Through this blog I want to offer inspiration and solutions for storage and organizing and to share ideas for the three R's: repurposing, recycling and reusing!Connie Eyberg Originalshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12310132698513467232noreply@blogger.comBlogger107125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-793023139415687795.post-4431117459318483582015-06-29T10:35:00.001-05:002015-06-29T10:35:13.918-05:00Using Pants/Skirts Hangers in Your Studio<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I think we have all seen these hangers, either using them in our closet or inexpensively offered at garage sales, discount stores or flea markets. If you have more space to hang items on a shelf, back of a door or in a closet for instance, these make great organizers. I have displayed them as they might be used in a sewing or quilting room, but they would also work for paper crafting, jewelry etc.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhA4_ppLMlJFY8Im00MHeYwOCC6MaMREYxAB5NYGyslOB85r3t3yg0_V47FE-7ai6gHnCjSe6yHBjLWNk97re2rMkZGhza6PgukxBu5FGi9L0-uO-UUJDcXjiSyp1L2v_oR3eGt-AR6ufE/s1600/Hangers.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="259" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhA4_ppLMlJFY8Im00MHeYwOCC6MaMREYxAB5NYGyslOB85r3t3yg0_V47FE-7ai6gHnCjSe6yHBjLWNk97re2rMkZGhza6PgukxBu5FGi9L0-uO-UUJDcXjiSyp1L2v_oR3eGt-AR6ufE/s320/Hangers.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My first example is using the pants hanger with hooks to organize a project. I have, for illustration purposes, clipped bags containing buttons, beads, ribbon, and floss as well as larger bags to hold the pattern and fabrics to be used in this project.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-BDl4bsAu5ZvPxNlNJNJVK9fBSVSNHMSXi4lF0K88l4irJehRA6xV6ewPGyKHVmSuQHMUxBrPRyulOnPXIIQScUl_ly929fvEg24zKrSQDNtnqD2G-p_xwkssxhNOneUnlzdRtOn7aBY/s1600/Projects.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-BDl4bsAu5ZvPxNlNJNJVK9fBSVSNHMSXi4lF0K88l4irJehRA6xV6ewPGyKHVmSuQHMUxBrPRyulOnPXIIQScUl_ly929fvEg24zKrSQDNtnqD2G-p_xwkssxhNOneUnlzdRtOn7aBY/s320/Projects.JPG" width="191" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The hangers with bars, especially the hangers that easily slip into and out of a loop on the end and will pivot forward to add or remove the spools. I could really see this being used ribbons or for beading threads and wires as well. Lots of possibilities with this hanger! You can actually leave the spools of thread on the bars as you use (crochet, tat...) the threads if you have a spot to hang it that is close enough to where you work on your project.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Below is an example of hanging together smaller scraps of fabrics in coordinating colors. You can see at a glance what you are looking for or just be inspired. It is also a good way to audition fabric combinations for a project. I find I am inspired when I see the fabrics in this manner and actually thought to myself that the green and lavender would be a great combination.</div>

I bought a small suitcase at a sale for $1.00. It was in pretty bad shape so I figured I couldn't hurt it. First I spray painted the entire outside of it with white paint. I then painted a floral bouquet on the top using acrylic paints.</div>

This is a post directed to those of you lacking space or a separate craft room but may also be a useful idea even if you have a studio.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUakBHfXMvrAfYIOxv1x3ah4uiTDeafsk3pvAuc5vK-gNSTBSsnAMJ6mYR_g6lvz1xqcelmiOIwj5yDAvy1mVH-qmyPXU014AdthPbRbnR3Znfny0oZNbnsp9dYz_fiX8XkkgjTO-L5sY/s1600/Fran+Lees+Quirk+wall+of+craft+supplies.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUakBHfXMvrAfYIOxv1x3ah4uiTDeafsk3pvAuc5vK-gNSTBSsnAMJ6mYR_g6lvz1xqcelmiOIwj5yDAvy1mVH-qmyPXU014AdthPbRbnR3Znfny0oZNbnsp9dYz_fiX8XkkgjTO-L5sY/s1600/Fran+Lees+Quirk+wall+of+craft+supplies.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I spend a lot of time on Facebook, thus often ignoring my blogs. There are a lot of crafters, painters, crazy quilters and beaders that formed group on Facebook and interact with each other pretty regularly. It is fun to get instant responses and meet so many in this manner. A fellow crafter/crazy quilter, Fran Lees Quirk, had posted this photo of her solution as a comment and was kind enough to let me share it with you all.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is her wall of supplies. She said it is in her bedroom where she has easy access to it. When finished or between projects she can pull the curtains to hide it. I think it looks great! Just think of the possibilities. I would love to hear from others that have had success with this type of solution.</div>

Traveling with craft/stitching projects can be tough sometimes, especially if you don't have the right containers. It is also much easier to forget an item you need or basic supply or tool.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
First of all, forgive me for a couple of 'fuzzy' photos here. This first item was a door prize I won. I must say it is very cleverly designed. It was donated by Thearica at <a href="http://www.crazyquiltingsupplies.com/" target="_blank">Crazy Quilting Supplies</a> and I was the lucky recipient! I believe there are other sizes as well, but mine (closed) measures roughly 8 1/2" long by 4 1/2" square.</div>

Below is a photo showing it 'unrolled' with four individual zippered see through containers for supplies. Think of the possibilities! I currently have mine designated as follows: (1) general stitching supplies such as scissors, needles, tape, thimble, etc.; (2) crochet and tatting tools and supplies; (3) mini beading tools, beading thread, needles and folding scissors; and (4) embroidery floss and threads. I'm sure this will change somewhat as I explore other possibilities.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Another fun thing about this is that each separate compartment is secured in place with hook and loop tape and can easily be removed so you can just take one section with you when that is all that is needed. If I am getting together with friends to bead, I can just grab that individual bag and throw it in my purse or in with my project or if I am going to stitch with friends I would take that bag. You get the point.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This next item is probably more suited for home use, but for us crazy quilters that want to have a lot of goodies with us it could also work for travel or to get together at a friend's house. I won this box at a gift exchange at the same retreat. It is a nice sturdy card stock box that closes with built-in magnets to hold the lid closed. It is also very pretty.</div>

My new friend Kristie brought this delightful box. She had already added some wonderful goodies but after I got home from the retreat and loaded it with other embellishments I either purchased, was gifted or brought home from the swap exchange, it was pretty full. I can't wait to start exploring all the possibilities for using the new embellishments and it is great to have them together in one container.</div>

While I am on this subject I may also mention the 'Altoid' boxes or other small tins so many of us use. The one below has basic stitching supplies. A magnet on the inside of the lid hold a needle. Folding scissors and a small pincushion fit neatly and the round wooden needle holder is full of straight pins.</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The tin box with hinged lid on the left holds one of my bead projects which I work on at times when I travel. Again, a magnet on the lid holds my beading needle(s); Other small containers of beads, threads, scissors and the UFO fit nicely in the box.</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The tin box below is one I often have with me. I have my mini beading tools, folding scissors, thread clamps, thread and a glass piece to put beads in while I am stitching so they don't scatter.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I recently attended a crazy quilt retreat in Kansas City and, being miss organizer, was fascinated with how everyone transported their tools and supplies. I drove but many of the ladies traveled with the airlines so they had to be especially creative. I wish I would have taken the opportunity to talk to them more about how they had things set up and taken more photos. Maybe next time.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I did see lots of beautiful handmade needle cases, cosmetic bags used for supplies, lots of plastic containers of all sizes with locking lids, and fabric bags. I do particularly remember (but can't find the photo) Lisa had Altoid tins marked by color. These contained a mix of beads in that particular color family. This made much more sense for crazy quilting than individual containers for each type or size of bead. I believe it was Karen that had her various beading thread spools held together on a wire piece used for spacing or to hold your place when knitting (It is obvious I don't knit but I know it is used somehow for knitting). It looked almost like a giant safety pin.</div>

What solutions have you found for taking your craft supplies with you either as you travel or for just going to a friend's or group gathering? Have you run into problems carrying certain supplies on a plane, getting past security with it?</div>

At least I didn't think about it until I came across this <a href="http://www.coletterie.com/peeks-in-the-studio/how-to-organize-a-mountain-of-sewing-patterns-with-your-phone" target="_blank">site</a>. If you have a disorganized box(es) or patterns, can never find the pattern when you need it, or patterns with no specific home and are needing a solution, follow the link.<br />
http://www.coletterie.com/peeks-in-the-studio/how-to-organize-a-mountain-of-sewing-patterns-with-your-phone<br />
<br />
I believe small cardboard 'pattern boxes' are available on the market. These are a standardized size and a good solution. I would probably search for plastic see-thru boxes in a size that would accommodate the patterns. I am always in favor of clear storage for the obvious reason that you can readily see what you have available. Labeling is also valuable when it comes to organizing.<br />
<br />
If I buy a specific pattern along with materials, trims and supplies for an item I definitely plan to make in the near future, I would probably keep it all together in a bag or 'project box' so that I wouldn't have to gather everything together again.<br />
<br />
I also might consider storing patterns in a notebook or notebooks, depending how many you have, keeping them in the plastic sheet protectors. If you have a lot of patterns a file cabinet may be your best solution.<br />
<br />
Keeping a tally/inventory as to what patterns you already own can be achieved through modern technology as addressed at the link above.<br />
<br />
What method do you have for storing patterns? How would/do you sort patterns? I'm curious to know what you have found that works for you...or doesn't work?<br />

Fire Mountain Gems, one of my favorites, offers some suggestions <a href="http://www.firemountaingems.com/encyclobeadia/beading_resources.asp?docid=9718&doccat=articles&WT.mc_id=FBZ140625-01" target="_blank">here</a>: http://www.firemountaingems.com/encyclobeadia/beading_resources.asp?docid=9718&doccat=articles&WT.mc_id=FBZ140625-01<br />

My experience with fabric storage is that it is an ongoing challenge to keep whatever system you use orderly as you work on projects. I am always looking for new ideas. I think my favorite of the craft gossip group is the one used to organize scraps by color using separate jars/containers. Being a crazy quilter I can see me using those leftover scraps! <br />

Here is a video with some nice bead and bead supply storage solutions. I was reminded recently I hadn't shown my storage used in the area where I do mostly crazy quilt projects. I must admit storing everything one uses for crazy quilting can get, well, crazy. Supplies multiply when you leave the room and you don't dare throw away any scraps (of anything), spare buttons, trinkets, leftover beads or even the tiny pieces of ribbon because if you do you will <i>need</i> them!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Below are photos from when I first set up my space. It obviously is closing in on me. The room is only 10' x 10' and is shared with office equipment and supplies. I began by taking the doors off the closet and moving all office related items into the closet. This worked out really well.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I originally had fabrics stored in tubs and on shelves in the closet but it was getting to be a problem keeping the stacks from spilling out and a nuisance pulling out tubs when what I needed was in the bottom tub. I ended up using a couple of dressers I painted white to store fabrics and other needs. I have to confess I still have a couple of tubs of heavier/bulkier fabrics in totes stored in the attic. I also purged some fabrics so that I could get the rest in the six drawers of this dresser. I have since placed a bookcase like the one to the left on top of the dresser for more storage. The big giant paper shredder that you see was relocated elsewhere in the house.</div>

As I <strike>confessed</strike> said, more has been integrated into this space as I found more that I couldn't live without and it has filled up pretty much. The wall next to the computer closet has an expandable sewing table which will fold down compactly when not in use. Behind the entry door is my ironing board and some bags containing WIP (works in progress). I also painted and added this towel shelf above my sewing machine. The revolving spice jars on top have my smaller buttons stored by color, the dowels hold my shorter sections of lace (and it is now dripping in lace), and the hooks hold my tags with various stitch samples from TAST.</div>

That pretty much covers everything. I hope you were able to get some inspiration from this and that I didn't bore you to death. The room is in total chaos right now because I have pulled out the UFOs (unfinished objects) and have them spread out so I am forced to work on them. I guess I did forget to mention I store my UFOs and supplies I have used on them to date in some stacking plastic boxes shown on a previous post where Lorraine shared that she uses them for fabric scraps. The real problem is that Chloe (my cat) has decided to lay claim to my stitching chair. She is so funny. We fight over favorite spots all the time and she usually wins.</div>

I really do enjoy organizing. These last few months have been a bit of a challenge though. My mother who just turned 89 moved into an apartment, from a large 2-bedroom split entry house with a huge basement that she has lived in since the 70s and into a 2-bedroom senior living apartment with no basement, garage or shed. This is better known as downsizing. It has been quite a transition for her leaving her friends and neighbors in a small town where she spent her entire adult life and into an apartment where she only knew one other person, my mother-in-law. She is adjusting quite well and being around people every day has been wonderful for her.<br />
<br />
Enough of that. When we moved her, as you might expect, things were just stuck wherever in order to get them put away and out of the way. Important documents were in unknown locations and everyday items were also misplaced. Her closets and cupboards were soon very full and disorganized. It was pretty much chaos behind doors but luckily this apartment has several closets for storage. I have been in the process of getting things where she can find them easily and placing important documents I find into her safe.<br />
<br />
Yes, it can be very overwhelming. I have taken my own advice and am just doing one section or area at a time. Because it was becoming a catch-all, I've started in her second bedroom which she made into an office. <br />
<br />
She is an artist and many of her paintings were leaned and tucked wherever there was space on the floor. We began by hanging those. They may get moved to other locations at some point, but for now they are on her walls, off the floor and out of her way and making the apartment feel more comfortable and homey.<br />
<br />
My dad passed away a few years ago so most of his papers are still in the desk and file cabinet. I decided to start on the closet since it had really become a dump-all. First I removed all of the obvious non-essential and broken or damaged items and disposed of them. She had three plastic small drawer sets that contained a mix of items. These are now labeled and used for copy paper, colored paper, card stock, pads/pens, office supplies, batteries/bulbs, and a small drawer to place documents in that we need to go through later.<br />
<br />
Her art supplies were in a variety of containers on the top shelf, so we went through those, discarding out-of-date or dried out supplies. The remaining items were placed into four shoe box-sized drawers labelled brushes/palette knives, oil paints, acrylic paints and glitter/solvents/misc. They are within easy reach, waist high so she can easily access them. The portable easel and canvases are next to the drawers or on the floor within reach and jars etc. that didn't fit into the drawers set on top of the drawer sets.<br />
<br />
Our next step will be photographs and frames I think. She has several small photo frames stacked on her top shelf. She also has two containers of photos next to her desk and a large box on a shelf in another closet. When she moved we had taken many of the photos which had been framed out of their frames, condensing the space needed down from two large totes. I have also been running across photos in drawers and other boxes. We will go through the photos together so she can choose some to put onto a memory card that will be inserted into one of those electronic frames that displays the photos one at a time. That way she won't have a bunch of framed photos to dust around and will be able to have all her favorite images to look at, saving space. A few may get re-framed, but we'll see what she thinks. We will be able to get rid of many of the old frames and fit all of the photos together into one box. The archival photo boxes are nice and that may be something we can consider, sorting the photos in some type of order. Another alternative, although initially time-consuming, is to scan the photos into her computer on a separate external hard drive. I have done that with my genealogy photos and it is wonderful once organized by family and by individuals. For the meantime I think they will just go into one box collectively to be put on a shelf.<br />
<br />
There is still a lot to be accomplished and those areas mentioned above were done on separate days. Breaking this process down into bite-sized pieces is the only way to accomplish our goals. I will try to keep you updated as this progresses. Hopefully you will benefit either by inspiration to tackle your own space or maybe even help you if you are going through a similar situation.<br />
<br />
What has been your latest organizing feat? I would love to hear.<br />

My last post I gave some links with tutorials for covering an ordinary binder with fabric. Here is one I completed. Even though this particular one isn't for my studio, I wanted to share it with you. I had created a crazy quilt block for someone as a surprise. A photo album seemed to be something functional that she would enjoy, so I went about creating a cover for an ordinary photo book.</div>

Now don't you think those binders on your studio shelves would look great covered with a coordinating fabric or even decoupage. These look much nicer than a plain binder, plus think of the fun creative time you could have creating some!</div>

As I was getting ready to add some links here I noticed I have 96 posts and 96 followers. No significance here, I just thought it was a funny coincidence. I have been wrapping up some projects from 2012 and getting started on more for 2013 and it seems I have neglected this blog.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I have run across some great links that I wanted to share and I thought that would be a much better thing to do than to show you the (drastic) state of my sewing studio right now. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
One site I especially want to direct you to is http://creativedaily.blogspot.com/2013/01/studio-organization_30.html <br />

<br />
<br />
Lorraine has come up with a fantastic idea for sorting her scraps by color using some bins intended for scrapbookers. Lorraine bought hers at Mitchael's but also directed me online to Amazon where they are also available. I get excited just anticipating all the possibilities! I think they would be absolutely perfect for project trays for works in progress (wip) or for keeping projects together when you travel. Other items they would work for might include floss/threads, ribbons, stamps, beads, buttons, painting/dyeing bottles, small tools, lace, and glues (just to name a few ~ lol). There are a plethora of ways you could sort your items as well. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Thanks Lorraine, both for sharing this on your blog and for allowing me to post the photo!<br />
(Also, be sure to visit her Etsy shop too)</div>

I'm still here. The end of the year gets so busy as we approach the holidays and that is where I have been. Since the beginning of the year I have been going through articles and pictures pulled from magazines and the Internet and purging those I must now admit I would never get to anyway. There is just something about the beginning of a brand new year and the longing for a fresh start on just about everything. The gyms are full of people wanting to start the year off right by getting in shape. Weight loss organizations have those wanting to lose weight signing up. There is also a desire to declutter or simplify parts of your home and your life. I am among the sheep. I start watching what I eat, working out more and sorting through piles long neglected.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I know the photo above looks like no big fantastic deal, but to me this is huge! I reorganized my sewing room/office earlier in 2012 and have much of it the way I want it. This photo is the top shelf of one of my bookcases. Yes, this is the after photo~lol! Before it was solid stacks of papers stuffed bottom of shelf and clear to the top and crammed side to side. There was no way I could ever locate what I wanted (without an avalanche); even if I knew which of the three piles it was in and the general area of that pile it would take too much time and effort to bother. Some of you know exactly what I am talking about don't you *smile*. In my after shot (yes, I'm sure that is the after shot~sigh) you can see I threw out a lot of the papers and now have smaller groups sorted into plastic boxes for now. I have separated mine by beading, fabric ideas, craft ideas I want to try and, of course, miscellaneous. The papers not in a box yet are thoughts, ideas and notes I have put together for a book on organizing which I have wanted to write. I actually did write one but find myself re-writing and over thinking everything I have written. I then set it aside to look at later but could never find it until I was out of time or out of the mood. Now I know just where to look. The notebook in the center has some of my papers for projects I am especially eager to try. Notebooks with sheet protectors are another great way to store ideas as they look neat on the shelf, protect the tear sheets and are easy to grab and to browse through when you are in need of some inspiration, instruction or ideas.</div>

I have already shared this shelf, but it is one of my favorites. It is a drying rack that I have painted and stained to go in my sewing room above the sewing machine. The spice jars on top hold my collection of buttons which are sorted by color. The racks extend out to accompany a lot of lace trims. It recedes compactly when not in use. I normally keep my stitching sample tags from TAST on the hooks along the bottom, but had them down to use when I took this photo. I love having supplies out where I can see them so I know what I have, don't you. It also inspires me when I have them in clear view.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I suppose this isn't really exciting to anyone but me since I didn't show you any photos of eye candy such as a luxurious room or storage unit. I guess the idea I am trying to get across is to not get overwhelmed thinking you have to organize and clean an entire studio or any room at once. Categorize items and maybe go back later to sort through and purge, but keep like items together. Approach one area such as a drawer or shelf. You will get to each when the time allows or when you are in the mood. It took me awhile, but I am so happy with my little shelf now that I know I can find what I need when I need it. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
I hope your new year is off to a fantastic start!</div>

I wrote about this on my other blog <a href="http://ceoriginals.blogspot.com/2012/10/tast-knotted-loop-stitch-week-41.html" target="_blank">HERE</a>. I don't think this blog has been blog scraped, but if you are looking at it and there is advertising on it, I would appreciate it if you would contact me and let me know.<br />
<br />
Now that I have that out of the way, on to more fun issues...storage!<br />

I discovered the most practical product for beads, findings, buttons, embellishments and small items used in crafts such as scrapbooking or crazy quilting for example, </div>

Seriously, I went from this (above) shoe box full of little baggies with just a few leftover beads, to this (below) organized and easily visible box. Which one do you think it is easier to find things in? The best part is I can see immediately what I have and it takes less space! If I am going on a trip or going to a class I can simply switch out the jars so I take the ones I may need while away.</div>

You know I am not fond of a room full of plastic bins, plastic drawer units and plastic boxes, but these are awesome. No I am not paid or compensated by Michael's where I purchased them. I just wanted to share my find. These come in different sizes also. This one is only an inch (2.5 cm) tall! There are taller ones also (you can see the measurements for this on the package label below) and smaller diameter ones as well. The back of the package has an email michaels.com/beadlanding. They are out of Irving, Texas.</div>

They work great for these little metal or the glass leaves. You can sort your items by type, by style or by color, or even finish. What ever works best for the way you work. </div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
If you have looked at at my studio photos, you will see I use glass apothecary jars and other glass pieces so I can see what I have. I think this is so important. However, I noticed some of my jars only have a couple or maybe a few beads in them and taking up space with a jar seems wasteful. Can you tell - I am so excited about this. I know. Silly.</div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWfRA18uGMVTgTbcW4JRyGwGCC0MN5fPdlOBoB8ihayhWl6PpkCvGkaApIrIuE2ttN9XDgbwa7XqeZjqSP7T3q7zVZyUrBoRgXgAJFb19n7sqhaH5CsEZhyphenhyphen6Q9oddDkdfxXL_BIfCTrgo/s1600/P1060705.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" nea="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWfRA18uGMVTgTbcW4JRyGwGCC0MN5fPdlOBoB8ihayhWl6PpkCvGkaApIrIuE2ttN9XDgbwa7XqeZjqSP7T3q7zVZyUrBoRgXgAJFb19n7sqhaH5CsEZhyphenhyphen6Q9oddDkdfxXL_BIfCTrgo/s320/P1060705.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I have not given up on my other storage pieces though. I keep a couple of these hinged lid boxes (above) for my assorted beads that I will use for outdoor items or something other than jewelry. I also still like these towers that screw together (below) for keeping like pieces together such as these larger hole silver beads and dangles.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
You have to admit though that these little jars that fit perfectly in the clear box they come with look gorgeous! I'm such an organizing geek.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlVZ0FWDvXeyxLb91KA0z365Km3pRyK98M_i2oARkrg6i3DA-D8kcCirn3mLMpGWB-ttRdsbnOTNJNIKMlkUBsmnYuStm6MqqVZpZunO8IYIsR_ZVg9myNadfo7rOXh0NG0h1qtE8D4rw/s1600/P1060704.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" nea="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlVZ0FWDvXeyxLb91KA0z365Km3pRyK98M_i2oARkrg6i3DA-D8kcCirn3mLMpGWB-ttRdsbnOTNJNIKMlkUBsmnYuStm6MqqVZpZunO8IYIsR_ZVg9myNadfo7rOXh0NG0h1qtE8D4rw/s320/P1060704.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here is another idea I like. Since I make a lot of jewelry and do crazy quilting, this works really well. The spools of wire for beading wire often comes with a plastic (there's that word again) guard on it to keep the wire from unraveling. It is removable.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQwy7ddNIBMb1CJXp8cBThe-jkgLbR2h4LpO-mIF6zyktUEiJa0nKS7pXyAKTk36PefYXn6q-WgN_UsS53RTpJ4K_zW04lTirkmiNemJL0dQAQs-RK_mB4pPbEAfxCxkjgys2QbZ_IxsA/s1600/P1060708.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" nea="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQwy7ddNIBMb1CJXp8cBThe-jkgLbR2h4LpO-mIF6zyktUEiJa0nKS7pXyAKTk36PefYXn6q-WgN_UsS53RTpJ4K_zW04lTirkmiNemJL0dQAQs-RK_mB4pPbEAfxCxkjgys2QbZ_IxsA/s320/P1060708.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
When I empty one of the spools, I remove the label and wrap my my narrow ribbon on it, clip the plastic stopper on and my ribbon is easy to get to and doesn't come loose or have holes from pins that might otherwise keep it in place. My question...why haven't ribbon companies thought of doing this?!? If you only use ribbon but not the wire, maybe you can find someone who uses wire but not the ribbon?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEho7CYM6Drsmc5ZeOEZWwiAO9HDjL8rG4JBrlDaqx6aScinwQ4ZSfL8P2S6-DKlEcE8cfRChPdVGAwy9vtVnMV3YxE388Wf-l7CpeF_4heSd1_pFXQqmcmX7DBlRyscnzG6rWE9C-zD-hs/s1600/P1060710.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" nea="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEho7CYM6Drsmc5ZeOEZWwiAO9HDjL8rG4JBrlDaqx6aScinwQ4ZSfL8P2S6-DKlEcE8cfRChPdVGAwy9vtVnMV3YxE388Wf-l7CpeF_4heSd1_pFXQqmcmX7DBlRyscnzG6rWE9C-zD-hs/s320/P1060710.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I also love that these usually have a tab for hanging or a hole in the center to put them onto a dowel or peg.</div>

What do you think (about the idea, not about me being an organizing geek~lol)? </div>

Do you find your actual working space closing in on you? One idea that might work for you is to add an additional space above your work space. I was running into this problem while working on some jewelry recently and as you can see, adding this bed tray gave me that badly needed added work surface. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7AZxHLtuMQw2VFd6k_U8LFEQjYFJpN7mZJFZW41ZpoLx1eRYG1RQ1sbcrad3ELT_S4NB-18BvwQLJHzDq8VO9Nto8YTBT_ccZBujOyLHDajPg10ak04NUdY2R6SoyAIXQevV6k7LrfMc/s1600/Bed+Tray.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" hea="true" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7AZxHLtuMQw2VFd6k_U8LFEQjYFJpN7mZJFZW41ZpoLx1eRYG1RQ1sbcrad3ELT_S4NB-18BvwQLJHzDq8VO9Nto8YTBT_ccZBujOyLHDajPg10ak04NUdY2R6SoyAIXQevV6k7LrfMc/s320/Bed+Tray.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div align="center">
A bed tray worked well in this space because they are fairly short, so your items are still within easy reach and easily visible. This is on my fabric dresser top. I also especially liked this bed tray because it has a back and sides that kept the beads and other items from falling off the back to an area difficult to reach without moving the dresser out. And, image that this one was already green! </div>
<div align="center">
<br /></div>
<div align="center">
This sewing room of mine is still a work in progress and I am approaching it one "issue" at a time. I normally work on my jewelry in my studio, but had something else going on back there which I have since completed. This bed tray was the perfect temporary solution to my lack of surface work space. It also works great if I decide to pick the work up and take it to another room. Yes, I still work all over the house. I follow my muse around ~ lol. Do any of you do that? Sometimes I just want to be working around other humans or find the light better in another area for the project I am working on.</div>
<div align="center">
<br /></div>
<div align="center">
I hope you found this a useful idea! Sorry, no links this post. But if you have found a similar solution and want to share it with everyone, feel free to add your link. Does anyone actually use bed trays for their intended purpose?</div>

I have had a fairly productive day today. I have had this shelf for years just waiting for the perfect spot. I am sure you know what I mean *wink*. I finally had painted it ivory when I painted my two dressers a couple weeks ago. The more I looked at it the more I thought it really needed a different color. I decided to go with green, so today I went and picked up the paint and started painting. I didn't paint the rods and hinges because I was concerned they may leave marks on my items, so I just sealed them with varnish. I kind of like the brown stain color with the green anyway. It was a beautiful day outside so it dried quickly. I brought it in and hung it up. My rotating <strike>spice</strike> button jars fit perfectly on top. There are three pegs on the bottom which I will use for my reference tags and the "dryer rack" will pull out or tuck in as shown and will work perfectly for trims or fabrics. I am loving the green and think I may even repaint my dressers in green now (not literally right now, but in the near future)!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<div align="center">
I have this hanging above my sewing machine where it seems pretty happy. Don't you just love adding something new to a room? It always makes me feel like cleaning and organizing for some reason. Does that happen to you too? What do you think of the green? I am so ready for color instead of being so safe with shades of cream, white and ivory.</div>

It started off that I had this really sweet doll buggy that I was trying to sell locally. I wasn't able to sell it and had it sitting in my sewing room while I tried to decide what to do with it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzPnaOM_2OgD0tULx2cxknbhwAMLramoXbZg6lW5KSbGfYFBkqrQK7RL0SEafmYxXyFdsCtDR4kuVi5sWGHma_bEECVJah030GHbi_552ivkTj4iwBVx7p3DCQOVs9bJByHpABxXFbLfQ/s1600/Buggy+empty.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzPnaOM_2OgD0tULx2cxknbhwAMLramoXbZg6lW5KSbGfYFBkqrQK7RL0SEafmYxXyFdsCtDR4kuVi5sWGHma_bEECVJah030GHbi_552ivkTj4iwBVx7p3DCQOVs9bJByHpABxXFbLfQ/s320/Buggy+empty.JPG" width="278" yda="true" /></a></div>
<br />
<div align="center">
As I was sitting there with some of my threads on the floor it dawned on me this "basket" could be a good container for the threads. It seems this little buggy would work well for a number of things including yarn, lace, or even to hold projects I'm working on until I am able to complete them.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div align="center">
I guess you just never know when an idea or solution will come to you. What do you think? Am I crazy? </div>
<div align="center">
<br /></div>
<div align="left">
While I'm here I may as well share a link. I hope you are having a great week and are doing something fun!</div>

I don't have a post ready, but I do have a couple of wonderful links I wanted to share with you. That is the least I can do. I seem to have gotten myself involved in so many projects this year and they are taking up a lot of my time. I really truly appreciate your staying with me and especially love hearing from you when you have the chance to drop in a comment. <br />
<br />
So in the meantime, here are the links I promised. I hope you enjoy them. If any of you would like to share your ideas and want me to post a link to your blogs here, let me know and I will be happy to share either the link as I have done here or even post a photo and direct readers to your blog. I love sharing all the great ideas I run across and I would love seeing how you organize!<br />
<br />
Time to catch up on your filing! …Filing fabric that is. What!?! Check out this idea for repurposed fabric storage. I love it! In fact, I love this blog.<br />

Storing stash in a camper has got to be a challenge! Julie shares some tips on her blog for storing threads. I think her ideas would work for any small space!<br />

Although I don't want a room full of plastic containers, I must admit they are handy to have for visibility of product and easy access. These drawers are kept on a shelf in a bookcase near my sewing center. I have them sorted by color and this system has actually worked pretty well for me.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgze9qKtfw_R22gR5fTWoM5tCDWmznl5gMUVn8NSEEs22Tf5KIwPqFqEbUcrYMUVLoZSLR-CW61lKm4a1AD1hyB6Al_i285SMXCt23wYjO2Jsk24Sj0YSt2OA95QMaaeE-L84XXqeCNQWo/s1600/Thread.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" hda="true" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgze9qKtfw_R22gR5fTWoM5tCDWmznl5gMUVn8NSEEs22Tf5KIwPqFqEbUcrYMUVLoZSLR-CW61lKm4a1AD1hyB6Al_i285SMXCt23wYjO2Jsk24Sj0YSt2OA95QMaaeE-L84XXqeCNQWo/s320/Thread.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I also have some specialty threads that I keep in apothecary jars. They are pretty to look at and easy to find.</div>

An enormous number of creative bloggers will be sharing links to their blog's studio pictures where you can find lots of eye candy. There is always so much inspiration and many ideas you may want to incorporate into your own studio. You won't want to miss this! Visit Where Bloggers Create <a href="http://where-bloggers-create.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">HERE</a>.<br />
<br />
I participated in this last year and also visited almost all of the other studios as well. I was so impressed with how well this is organized. There is such variety in the studios you will see also, so you are almost assured of finding something you love. Maybe next year we can all take part (assuming she continues having these).<br />Connie Eyberg Originalshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12310132698513467232noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-793023139415687795.post-9404980761331488062012-06-29T09:09:00.001-05:002012-06-29T09:09:18.986-05:00Update on Updated Office/Sewing Room<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The second dresser has entered the room. The drawers are packed and the top is full, but I still have more to bring in! One entire drawer has velvets destined for a velvet crazy quilt, so I will get started on that soon and free up that space. This is actually given me the incentive to make more. As they say, "use it or lose it" and I am rather attached to my fabrics and supplies. As for the top of the dresser... I finally have a place to set my WIPs (works in progress). They also say "out of sight, out of mind" and I think we all know about that one.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0RR8i1Gr_Ucw6c3OFOTnxZmzctnmYO5tKY2UWcAtb5Eq_VqWa_zvtEuDLtFGUB4PnGKQAmdESCjJXJ0XcjIn6nZYv1Zgwf1IX-PF16AtVotlofrppTLGk5s1PBkYVx0V9DNt2JD0SyaA/s1600/P1050894.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0RR8i1Gr_Ucw6c3OFOTnxZmzctnmYO5tKY2UWcAtb5Eq_VqWa_zvtEuDLtFGUB4PnGKQAmdESCjJXJ0XcjIn6nZYv1Zgwf1IX-PF16AtVotlofrppTLGk5s1PBkYVx0V9DNt2JD0SyaA/s320/P1050894.JPG" vca="true" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I don't know if you noticed, but I kept the old drawer pulls (for now). I hate to discard something that works perfectly fine. I boiled them in vinegar and water for about 15-20 minutes to give them a good cleaning and then polished them with a cloth. They don't look so bad do they?<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
*Before I forget, here are some <strong><em>LINKS</em></strong> for your viewing pleasure. Do you like seeing these? I don't get much feedback on them and wonder whether they are actually of interest?<br />

In case you haven’t yet had enough about color, here is some more insight about communication and the language of color.<br />

And here is a link for a pin cushion/caddy to keep by your side. It would be a wonderful aid in keeping things organized as you stitch. I actually found this link through http://magpiesmumblings.blogspot.com/2012/06/pincushions-and-rust.html but the direct link follows. (BTW, both sites are fun to visit). One of the followers on this blog and a wonderfully talented stitcher commented recently and I visited her blogs…her many blogs. This one really caught my eye and I thought some of you may be interested. She has set up a blog for stitchers to buy, sell and/or exchange stitch supplies. I thought it was a great idea and wanted to share. Faye, I hope you don’t mind.<br />

Yesterday's progress...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I am deep into it now. I've shared photos on here before of my disaster closet. I started taking things out as you can see. The transformation (at least in the closet) has begun. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsUSjIXNkIVLrLg2IBjgP7rExyvz3Q7XQM78ciwxi0tHBFxoOIFPUfkCdvaLs4JsX0RPcORLaKeVnFdalj8ipSaa7sbo3hd3N1H3lM2vZy5b8vrV8WYlnHfD1qWgra5Q6OrYSrq6ucLzU/s1600/P1050876.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsUSjIXNkIVLrLg2IBjgP7rExyvz3Q7XQM78ciwxi0tHBFxoOIFPUfkCdvaLs4JsX0RPcORLaKeVnFdalj8ipSaa7sbo3hd3N1H3lM2vZy5b8vrV8WYlnHfD1qWgra5Q6OrYSrq6ucLzU/s320/P1050876.JPG" vca="true" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
After emptying the closet I removed the doors and loaded my office-related items into the closet. This is working out great! I'll deal with supplies on the top shelf later.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnGUs5JjH8vX_iA5V2k-LjPoRlK4B5IfhtmtDnSg_9MXRWFgKEndae35IDbPOGZWTf43vvYEx7ovKCyn5xDltPvWs5Vbg4YfcSUfWRmWV0HL8Y7emvnUQBYUiBaylliBhAKtdpT3V_Xdc/s1600/P1050880.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnGUs5JjH8vX_iA5V2k-LjPoRlK4B5IfhtmtDnSg_9MXRWFgKEndae35IDbPOGZWTf43vvYEx7ovKCyn5xDltPvWs5Vbg4YfcSUfWRmWV0HL8Y7emvnUQBYUiBaylliBhAKtdpT3V_Xdc/s320/P1050880.JPG" vca="true" width="259" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Next I brought in one of my refinished dressers (see previous post) and placed it in the corner. It holds tools, floss, lace, batting etc. right now, all in arms reach from my chair. The little end table will also be dealt with later.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigSVdQoZqRUffO-3Iv_Le7glT7kEcmUfQahjv93371Muj19zZyR7VLz2ismuX3I6UaPZM9o8_hdUx96FPQ09-6pMEm6kUSZmrEmsTnG6T0OrZGut-y-V6V5EU8xag_Bheb2y5ZvEh-qJI/s1600/P1050881.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigSVdQoZqRUffO-3Iv_Le7glT7kEcmUfQahjv93371Muj19zZyR7VLz2ismuX3I6UaPZM9o8_hdUx96FPQ09-6pMEm6kUSZmrEmsTnG6T0OrZGut-y-V6V5EU8xag_Bheb2y5ZvEh-qJI/s320/P1050881.JPG" vca="true" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Today... I emptied one of the bookcases and placed it on top of the dresser, reloading it with drawers of supplies such as threads, beaded trims and other embellishments. Placing the bookcase on top of my dresser freed up more floor space for my other dresser.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjidpTp8tHsrsr9x9y9TgCswZ7hyphenhyphenprAQ2O3XquryA8agGz6AMj4YhlJzKUHlc9rAhephHfIJz4fJ_fnO98CCYAstO5P39Q_su-Ln8HG8jlzTsKPDlRpXQw1ytmLN0w1_8ODl3gDlrKUHo/s1600/P1050884.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjidpTp8tHsrsr9x9y9TgCswZ7hyphenhyphenprAQ2O3XquryA8agGz6AMj4YhlJzKUHlc9rAhephHfIJz4fJ_fnO98CCYAstO5P39Q_su-Ln8HG8jlzTsKPDlRpXQw1ytmLN0w1_8ODl3gDlrKUHo/s320/P1050884.JPG" vca="true" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I then placed my sewing machine next to it and brought in the second refinished dresser. I think I may be turning it the other direction so I have better access. I was going to place another bookcase on it and run a board across the top to hold even more, but Mr. was concerned about so much weight on one area, so on to plan 'B' (whatever that is!)...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhYSvxuqAIl7CJTSUC_gHr1iOUAOeIDsfCQ8sht7cKU7QgOdgejRMa1NsMa3tE6YgsWL2v2yBxxXCmnadok9Zyr9KUgQXbOW4UIMq-iI498ORnY0wHosyfF6KXfxClfkjc5FNYGSwPqd8/s1600/P1050883.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhYSvxuqAIl7CJTSUC_gHr1iOUAOeIDsfCQ8sht7cKU7QgOdgejRMa1NsMa3tE6YgsWL2v2yBxxXCmnadok9Zyr9KUgQXbOW4UIMq-iI498ORnY0wHosyfF6KXfxClfkjc5FNYGSwPqd8/s320/P1050883.JPG" vca="true" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I was feeling pretty good about things until I went back in the other room to fill a few more drawers. Yikes! I am going to have to either (a) store a couple bins of fabric elsewhere, (b) get busy and use up a bunch of fabric or (c) downsize my supply. I have a ton of books too which take up lots of space. Some are my "go to for inspiration" books and not going away while some can go. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

For today I am tired. It is about 100○ F outside and my energy is at a low level anyway. I think I will see if I can get to my chair and do a little relaxing stitching and thinking before dinner time. Those of you who have done this, don't you just hate this part of the process! It can seem so daunting but somehow gets done and leaves you with a good feeling. Have you ever gotten this far and said "forget it!", put everything back and pretended like it never happened? It is so tempting, but I shall persevere. Please send me some good vibes! I'm thinking my sewing machine cabinet needs a coat of paint too, don't you?Connie Eyberg Originalshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12310132698513467232noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-793023139415687795.post-66122445640462362622012-06-24T11:06:00.001-05:002012-06-24T14:25:08.028-05:00Starting the Process<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Finally! As you may or may not recall (since it has been such a long time) I have been on a search for a couple of dressers to use in my sewing room/office. I finally found one at a garage sale and one is a dresser I had when I was a kid. The latter was showing many years of neglect so I had to do a little structural repair. It is maple and has a Formica top. I'm hoping through the use of a primer the paint will stick to the surface. So far so good.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The other dresser is a heavier wood of some sort and is built really well. It has a really heavy coat of gloss paint on it and the brush strokes and drip marks are pretty bad. I have sanded, primed, sanded again and painted one coat on them so far. One more sanding with really fine steal wool and another coat of paint and maybe a sealer before I will be able to share the after photos.</div>

Have any of you that may have taken on a project like this used a sealer over the paint? I can ask the store clerk for advice also, but I value the advice of those who have tried it. I'm also undecided as to what I will do about the drawer pulls. Ideas? I am trying to keep this project on a low budget but also want results I can be proud of. I have considered spray painting the pulls or even decoupage. I need to somehow coordinate them at least since they are so opposite each other. What do you think?<br />

I am really hoping these will have room for what I need to store in them. I hate to part with things because "I may need them some day". I know that is not the way to be truly organized, but as soon as I get rid of something I have the perfect use for it! Does that ever happen to any of you? Come on now, I'm sure I'm not alone in that thinking.<br />

I have neglected this blog horribly and I apologize. I have been working on several challenges and posting things on my other blog. I had to stop in while we are into the subject of color theory here and share this link I just ran across. It relates to jewelry design but as we all know the rules go across the board to cover just about anything. <br />

<a href="http://www.gilbertdesigns.net/publications/askthecolorqueens.html">http://www.gilbertdesigns.net/publications/askthecolorqueens.html</a> You can sign up on their site to receive their email newsletter and they have free downloadable PDFs full of wonderful information I think you will find useful. I would love to hear what you think. I actually found it through <a href="http://www.beading-arts.com/">http://www.beading-arts.com/</a> who shared the link. Bloggers are wonderful aren't they!<br />
